Biofloc systems depend on continuous aeration and a healthy microbial community that converts waste into useful protein-rich flocs.
The carbon source must be added carefully. Too much carbon can crash oxygen; too little leaves ammonia unmanaged.
Use test kits frequently. Ammonia, nitrite, alkalinity and dissolved oxygen should be checked more often during the early cycle and after feed changes.
Do not overload tanks. A biofloc setup is intensive but not unlimited; backup power and backup aeration are essential.
